GU Tories call for ban of GUJPS from campus 

In an open letter, the GU Conservatives & Unionists accused campaign groups of supporting a genocide of the Jewish people, and laid out demands to the University

The Glasgow University Conservatives & Unionists (GU Tories) have called for “sanctions” against students who took part in October 7 protests.

In an open letter published this evening, the group shared their disapproval for the protests which took place on campus on 7 October 2025, the two year anniversary of Hamas’ attack on the Gaza envelope of southern Israel. 

“As if this was not enough of an insult to the memory of the victims of Hamas’s terror, students then began praising the terrorists who carried out these atrocities and gave support to their actions and genocidal aims,” the letter read.

The letter was co-signed by Sandesh Gulhane, Conservative MSP for the Glasgow region.

It went on to say: “It does not require a great deal of thought to deduce that the same people who support the genocidal terror group Hamas, and call for the destruction of the Jewish state, are themselves calling for a genocide against Jews.” 

The letter demanded that the University “suspend, expel, or take other appropriate measures” against students protesting on 7 October this year.

It also called for a ban on Glasgow University Justice for Palestine Society (GUJPS), who the GU Tories say “have displayed clear support for terrorism and genocide.” The letter also calls for “clear plans for how these events will never be repeated.” 

The Times recently reported that the University has vowed action against GUJPS, who hosted a “celebration” of the October 7 attacks on their two year anniversary.

The activist group said in an Instagram post: “Whilst we commemorate two years of genocide with over 680,000 Palestinians in Gaza killed, we celebrate the glorious Al-Aqsa Flood which permanently crippled the zionist entity, putting it into a state of slow but inevitable collapse.”

Glasgow University Stop the War Coalition also organised a student demonstration named “all out for Palestine” on 7 October 2025.

At the demonstration, a spokesperson for the group said the day marked “the intensification of the Palestinian people started. Israel used the idea that they were trying to regain the hostages to occupy Gaza; this has been shown to be a lie.”

The letter follows claims by Professor Michael Ben-Gad of City St George’s, University of London, that pro-Palestine protestors targeted him during a lecture and threatened to behead him. Ben-Gad was conscripted into the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) in the 1980s.
